Shin's Death-A Theory Empty
PostSubject: Shin's Death-A Theory   Shin's Death-A Theory EmptyTue Apr 13, 2010 9:13 am

On forums, I like to see theories put up by members. This is most often with games with puzzling storylines, like Silent Hill 2 or Rule of Rose-both which I definitely think you should play. More often that not, a theory appears on a website, but it is usually the administrator who has to promote them by offering examples. Therefore, I will be offering a theory inspired by a post here and will be on the lookout for other theories, which I hope that you all will make.

I believe that The Possession takes place after Rin meets Shin in the school. Evidence? He uses the cell phone to transport, mainly going into the house instead of the hospital. He was killed by Reiko and is finally a ghost at the time that Rin arrives at the house.

There are a few flaws to this as well, like how Shin doesn't have 2 cell phones, or that the number [that he dialed] might not even be the corret one to transport to the house. But, I perceive this as just a method of bad writing and plot holes.

Your thoughts Smile?

Going to have to agree. I don't think there actually is any mystery behind Shin's death.

Evidence to support this:

The Possession is short. A nice chapter to use as a tutorial for the game.
To get the true ending of the game the order is The Mnemonic Abyss, The Awakening, The Possession. This would suggest that The Possession takes place after The Awakening.
Makoto is attacked by Shin in the house. We all know Makoto goes to the house after the school.

PostSubject: Re: Shin's Death-A Theory   Shin's Death-A Theory EmptyWed Apr 14, 2010 5:47 am

I still think they made a fault in the scenario's.

Shin wakes up in the Possession, just like Rin 'wakes up' in the school and Makoto in the Geek room. So how did he get to the school, because he just CANNOT have survived Reiko's attack..

Or,

Shin starts in the school (like Jolly Doll's theory), and teleports to the One story house, and just faints or something, then wakes up again...

Well, aside from me and Jolly Doll's theory, yours is probably the most correct one.

I would think of it as, Rin wakes up in the school, Makoto in the Geek Room, and Shin also waking up in the school. He teleports to the one story house and wakes up on the bed-forgetting most of the things but discovering the cell phone and being killed by Reiko.

It would have been less confusing if the developers just put the scenarios in their order.

It's also possible, but less likely, that Shin woke up in the house first, escaped Reiko, woke up in the school, somehow ended up in the house again, and died.

Yes it would be less confusing.

I guess we will only know the one and only correct theory when Hudson explains it.

True true.
How about this one, Shin found a way to teleport while being attacked by Reiko.
He then get's to the school, sees the 3 girl ghosts there and tries an other number, only to be teleported back into a certain death.

I know it is pretty unlikely, well pretty.. 99% certain that it is incorrect.. Smile
But it does fit in perfectly in the storyline.

And my signature is working Very Happy thanks for the tips on enabling Simon Smile

You're welcome. That theory is very much correct, though very much unlikely at the same time.

Hmm, maybe Reiko just played around with him, teleporting him and what not to scare him, highly unlikely, but it's possible. ^^

You're coming up with a lot of theories! Maybe, maybe, and that one makes Reiko seem a bit of a childish ghost-as in 'joking' around with Shin.

Yes true, but I think a lot of things are actually done by Reiko (it IS her little world).
Like the dolls and stuff, they couldn't have killed the character playing at that time. So when looking at it from this point of view, she might play with them for her own pleasure, feeling better when other people suffer.

Yeah it's kind of mean towards Reiko.. (Hope I won't wake up in a weird haunted room with a cell phone next to me tomorrow)

Maybe Shin started out in a different location than the school or the doll maker's house? Because if I'm not mistaken, all four characters should have been placed in separate places.

Rin was at the school, Chiyo was in the doll maker's house, and Makoto was in Shin's room. So maybe Shin started out in a different place as well?

I also think Shin died in "The Possession" scenario. His spirit remains there when you fight him off as Rin, and you can spot his ghost when you examine his glasses on the floor of the first room after examining Sadao's Notebook.

Shin's Death-A Theory Empty
PostSubject: Re: Shin's Death-A Theory   Shin's Death-A Theory EmptyFri Apr 23, 2010 3:30 am

That's an interesting idea! I was wondering about that--I mean, I knew he got caught by ghosts, so when I saw him in the school, I thought "Man, I'm glad he got out of that alright!"

But judging from what people are saying here, he didn't.... Sad Poor guy.
When he locked himself in the bathroom I wanted to talk to him, or try and open the door to calm him down, but I just freaked him out more. He thought a ghost was coming back to get him.

Yeah I went into the boys' bathroom--desperate times and all that. XD

I probably would have been killed by ghosts, too, though, to be honest. I mean, I don't overreact too much, but I do get scared easily (I just don't scream very much...or at all). Though I was thinking about screaming at Shin to drop the phone and not transport. I wish people in the game could stay together a bit more....if they did, there's more of a chance they'd survive, right? I am not that great at horror survival games, but I do know that if people are alone in one, things go downhill very fast. I almost shouted at the screen, "Why are you leaving me??" when Shirae left to follow the ghost of his friend and Shin ran away when he saw a ghost. So frustrating...and here I found another living person at last.

I just finished Kagura's part and got the "fake" ending. I thought that if she had an ending like that but she's really still alive, maybe Shin's still alive, too....though it doesn't look too good for Shin, does it? How is his family going to take it when they learn that he's died? :/

People who get the call immediately get taken to The Mnemonic Abyss, or fall unconscious and die, right?

That's an interesting theory, but in what location would you think he started then (make up one if you know a good one Wink)?
(Maybe in the computer room hahaha Smile )

Or maybe the salon? That's the other place I can think of, and a place that no one else started out at, that I know of. Or maybe even the hotel.

I wonder where Sadao started out; maybe it was one of those places, at a different time than Shin, if Shin started out at one of them. I actually thought that Shin's room was Sadao's, since they both like the MAKO anime and Samsara magazine, and there was a ton of MAKO stuff all over. But then I saw that the kind of shirt Shin wore was on the wall. I guess Sadao could have bought them too, though.

What does everyone think?

The Hotel/Salon sounds probable. Sadao probably started out in the Internet Cafe.

Hmm... If I'm not mistaken, Sadao probably started out in the first location you find his very first notebook that you collect. But I can't remember where it's from.

I'm playing it over, after the fake ending. I'm Rin in the school and I'm on the third floor. When I find his notebook, I'll put where the first one was here. I want to say it was at the school, in the art room by the busts, which meant he started from the school..but I forgot where most of them were.

Interesting thread.

According to the sticky topic, Sadao's first notebook was Sadao's in the <Mnemonic Abyss>Room of [wotaku].

What does that mean?

The "wotaku" part? It's usually transliterated as "otaku", and means "geek", "nerd", or "something"-freak, like anime freak.

I think the "Room of Otaku" is referring to Shin's room, since it had all the MAKO shirts, action models, and Samsara stuff.

Maybe Sadao started in the Geek room, which is highly likely to be Shin's room.
It would be a good start for Sadao as he investigates what was going on.

its kinga funny that he hides in the bathroom room stall when the ghosts could just go right through it! those girls r mean!
but i think it was done like this...
he woke up in the school and got chased by the school girls...then he meets rin (makoto sees him at some point too) and then when rin sees shin again, after rin tells him how to transport, shin just dails a radomized number and ended up in the doll house.
(the miss order of the story line is just a way to wig u out and make u think more about the story)
and the cell phone that shin finds is very most likely kondous cell phone. and then reiko kills him w hair i guess? (i assume cuz u use scissors to cut it as makoto and plus it just looks like it)
and its obvious that shin died in the doll house cuz as makoto u actually HEAR him scream right when u arrive at the doll house a makoto!
and u see him there as rin too of course, and u fight him off, and there rotari (sp?) phone freaks ghost shin out cuz that was one of the things that led him to his (virgin) death...poor (virgin) dude shin...

and the way u know he found that number is bcuz makoto finds the paper w/ the number on it in the nurses office (school) where shin transported. and then shin wents to kondous and died there.
