This topic is made for sharing scary stories and urban legends. You can also share stories from 4Chan or CreepyPasta. Thank you!

I've heard a story of the Slender Man. Even though it's confirmed to be fake (from a picture topic on SomethingAwful) it's a very interesting and scary read. I've also read Candle Cove, which you can read +

Happy sharing Smile

Have you heard about The Babysitter?

Basically she recieves calls from a weird stalker. She calls the Operator, and it turns out that the calls are coming from upstairs. Depending on the version, the kids die, she dies, or it's a combination, or she and the kids survive.

I've heard of the Babysitter one. The version I read is that he came down the stairs and was very creepy looking, and just stared at the babysitter on the stairs. She eventually called the police and they arrested him. I think I read it in that visually disturbing book "Scary Stories."

I learned of an urban legend in my town recently actually. Supposedly there was a factory or warehouse that was abandoned or closed down because there was evidence of human experiments going on (crazy, huh?) and apparently, some of those experiments escaped into the woods. Legend says that if you drive down Park Ave. start to finish at night and look in your rear view mirror, you'll see them. They're nicknamed "Lemonheads" because of their experimental deformation.

It's really scary!

PostSubject: Kuchisake Onna   Share Scary Stories! EmptyFri Apr 30, 2010 12:38 am

Ugh, the Babysitter one I've heard many times and it's my worst nightmare. I babysit a lot for a really nice little kid and I'd be terrified if that happened. I'm already scared some person's gonna come in with a gun or something when I'm babysitting.

Hmm...I know an urban legend from Japan. Maybe some of you have heard of it.
It's about a woman, who's now a wandering spirit, that got her face disfigured, slashed ear to ear. Her husband, a samurai (it's an old tale but there are modern versions too), found out his wife was cheating on him so he cut her mouth ear-to-ear and told her, "Who will think you're pretty now?" The modern version is that the woman was in a car crash.

But regardless of the version, the woman is called Kuchisake-Onna (Cut-Mouth Woman) and people say that this woman walks around Japan, wearing a white surgical mask. This is not unusual, since lots of people in Japan wear masks around cold season. But when she approaches someone, usually at night, she will ask them, "Am I pretty?" The person answers yes to be polite, and then the woman yanks off her mask, revealing her cut face and says, "Am I pretty NOW?" If the person says no then, the woman kills them. If the person's a man and says yes, she follows them home and then kills them, but if it's a woman, she disfigures their face the same was hers was. The woman supposedly carries a huge pair of scissors and cuts her victim's face with them.

You can escape from her if, when she asks "Am I pretty", by saying "You're so-so", (she will think which lets the person run away), by throwing candy which distracts her, or by asking back, "Am I pretty?" This confuses her so the person can run away.

What do you think? Smile That's a popular urban legend. Public security in Japan was increased for a while because of reports of Kuchisake Onna appearing. Teachers would escort their students home from school each day, or so I read.

That Kuchisake-Onna urban legend is great! Very scary. And how people believed in it.. Even the AUTHORITIES! Must be some scare.

There's something similar to that one. Ever heard of Toire no Hanako-san? Or Hanako-san of The Toilet?

Legend doesn't date back that far, but there is some history to it. It says that one day, a girl was playing hide and seek with her friends, and she hid in the 3rd stall from the left of the restroom. This was during the World War II era, so bombs went off suddenly, and the roof collapsed on her, and she died. Years later, the school was renovated completely, and no one remembered about the accident. Other stories say she died by being bullied by fellow classmates, or being harassed by an abusive parent or pervert.

This is the good part; it is said that at that school, if you go to the bathroom and knock three times on the 3rd stall and say, "Hanako-san, let's play a game," or "Hanako-san, are you there?" To which she will reply: "Ha~i." (Japanese word for "yes"). If you are courageous enough to open the 3rd stall door, you will see her spirit, and she will either grab you into the stall and kill you/spirit you away, or she will just frighten you.

This was popular in the 80's, and many similar legends revolved around the world. I would not go into a Japanese toilet alone, if you ask me.

I've heard both of those legends from a website (I forgot which one, though). They are, indeed, very scary. Some part of me makes me think 'true' Smile

Oooh yeah I heard that one. Very Happy I saw it in a DVD about Japan Scary Tales. The girl in the story reached over the stall and the ghost grabbed her hand and almost pulled her over the top.

Haha yeah. Now I get creeped about bathrooms too, mostly because of The Calling.

The other day, I was in a building on campus, and I had to go wash my hands but the hall of the bathrooms was dark. I decided to go ahead and see if I could keep going even in the dark. I got to the door, opened it, and felt around for the light switch. I admit I got scared, thinking that a ghost hand would grab me. I went back to the hall and found a light switch and turned it on, then went back. It was creepy let me tell you. The wanderers of the Abyss sure have to deal with a lot of uncertainty and learn to get rid of their fear.

Gah. Scary bathroom story : P I had a similar one.

One day in 8th Grade, the power to the school went out, and all the hallways and classrooms were dark (except for the sunlight coming in the through the windows. However, the bathrooms don't have windows, so they were total darkness. I had to go use the bathroom reeeeeally bad so I went there, received a flashlight from a faculty who was standing outside the bathroom, and slowly made my way inside.

It was JUST like Calling!! Before I did my business I had to pass by the toilet stalls, and I freaked out because I heard a thump noise from one of them, but it turns out it was just another student haha ^_^; It was still scary.

Wow, that is scary...anything can be in the dark. If it's a ghost in the bathroom though, in your bathroom, that's kind of rude. Razz

I hate being in the dark thinking I'm going to fall into something, or run into something...like a grue! Just kidding. A grue is a fictional monster that lives in the dark and was in old adventure games. There are T-shirts about grues now, that say, "It is very dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue."

When I was trying to find the light switch, after I got some more light, I saw the switch had been just below my hand. So close...

ZOMG I just found the Kilmorey Lodge! It's in Waterton National Park, Alberta. Turned out I had been spelling it wrong all these years...ugh.... -.- But anyway...if you spell it like that then you can find stuff about it.

The lodge burned down after "spontaneous combustion in the laundry room", apparently. It was a nice place but I read they're rebuilding it....and it'll probably still be haunted when it's rebuilt. Smile The owner or someone said that he hopes the ghost that supposedly haunts it will come back. XDD Isn't that funny, and cool? I was actually in a haunted place and I think my mom and I saw a shadow figure there....or something otherwise creepy.

People aren't afraid of the dark, but they're afraid of what's in the dark.

Ever been to the Winchester Mystery House? It's a few blocks away from my home.

Mind if I jump in? =D
Winchester Mystery House? Heard of it somewhere... Isn't it that house built by a woman who feared some hunting ghosts? I heard even the bathroom's doors had windows... Creepy! I wonder if it was only fear that drew her to build it? Read somewhere that the house if full of twists and dead ends, don't remember why though.
I don't know if you know or not but the scariest urban legend I've heard of was the one about the little china doll. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Another thing, I don't know if it's just to creep me out but my mom used to tell me that sometimes when the family gathered in my grandmothers house in the living room, they'd hear the books in the basement be moved around, when everyone was in the living room.
And that there were times when I would go down the stairs with her, turn around and just wave a no one up there.
I don't really think my grand mothers house was haunted (the house is now too old to live in anyways), but a lot of people died in it.

I've never heard that China Doll one before, but that is REALLY creepy. The chanting in the story sounds so American-made though lol I don't know how else to explain it.

Yeah, that's it, pretty much. The house was so big, it had hundreds of rooms, and it needed so much paint for the outside that by the time the painters finished, they had to start repainting again x.o;

The woman had to keep building because she visit a psychic or something that told her when she stopped building the house, she'd die, and so she kept building but also build a lot of mazes and stuff so the ghosts would get lost trying to find her. The windows in the bathroom, though...I wonder why. I mean that just sounds rude. Razz Maybe there was a curtain you could pull down (and when you pulled it back up before leaving there's a GHOST standing there!! Just kidding).

Funny how it's always dolls...people make them, but then get freaked out by them. Must be how dolls always keep staring all the time.

The house must be pretty interesting!! I'm thinking that perhaps she was afraid of being in the bathroom all alone and so made the window so she could see to the outside? Or check if there was any ghost in there before going in?

I have this porcelain doll, she's been a gift from I aunt when I was little and I always took care of it, so it doesn't really creep me out. But I have a friend of mine who keeps a shelve of dolls on the wall and I don't know why but I just can't stand it.
Maybe the reason for the fear is because, if you found the doll or it was gifted to you, you never actually know the origin. I think people tend to fear things with an unknown origin?

Is anyone else also freaked out with mirrors? I can never turn off the lights in front of one, and I always guard any little mirror I have in my room and close the door to the bathroom. I never played Bloody Mary (too scared) and I don't know why but even in company I just don't like to see a mirror.

Maybe. If she didn't want to be alone, I understand that, or seeing ghosts before she went in so she would not go in that time. Plus all the scary bathroom scenes in The Calling...that made me freaked out.

I am too. I don't like them (but just recently). There's a mirror cabinet outside my sister's and my bathroom, and I wonder if I'll open it, then close it, there will be a ghost in the mirror. It's a bit creepy but kind of funny I think that. I didn't know, but it's like what happens in some movies. And one time my mom and sister told me "Don't look in the mirror, you'll die!" because we were talking about creepy-something-or-others.

I don't have the courage to play Bloody Mary either...whether it's real or not. And definitely not if it's real.

I think my cat's trying to tell me something...she's meowing and examining everything in my room. She might just want out. I have my door shut because it's a storm and my dog is going crazy because she hates thunder, and no one can calm her down when it thunders, or even rains. My other dog just ignores it though; maybe Lulu will one day. I like that it's raining now though, it sounds nice ^.^

I also like the rain, it makes good company when I'm alone. Yeah I know the feeling, I have three dogs and one ignores the sound, one just barks every now and then and my female is always so scared she just keeps bumping into someone's legs until we pet her haha

I think there are some things that are really better not found, they were there before, they will be there after so we might as well just leave it... If you actually try to open it and see something won't you please tell us? It'd e very interesting!! Smile

Not to run away from the topic, here's another urban legend:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
It's about a babysitter and a clown, I like it because I saw "It" when I was little and still can't overcome the fear for creepy clowns, so for me it's really creepy.
I'll post another one later ^_^

Aww, I wish I had something for ya....I opened my door and Lulu was just lying there with an annoyed expression. I think she was trying to get in because I heard quiet scratching noises the whole time. Or it was a ghost. Haha but nothing happened. I have only had minimal freaky encounters. My friend met a seaweed monster once when she and her family were on the beach. They went in a shed on the beach because it started raining I think, and my friend heard and sort of saw some seaweed moving around.

Another of my friends told me a story once, about how a night guard person or someone was keeping watch outside of a building, and the guard heard some knocking coming from inside the building. When he looked through the door (or maybe through a window, or the door had a small window or hole), all he saw was red. It's kinda like a real-life Girl in Red encounter isn't it? My friend said that if a person opened the door, they'd die, I think...it scared me a lot. I wonder if I could find that story somewhere and give more details (like knocking back or ignoring it makes the knocking stop).

I heard that clown story! It's creepy man! It's similar to the Babysitter story. *shiver* I'll go check it out anyway though. I get scared but I finally must be getting some enjoyment out of being scared xD

There is the story in Japan about the Cut-Mouth Woman...apparently, the U.S. equivalent of her is a clown. And the South Korea equivalent is a woman with a red medical mask instead of a white one.

I know that story!!! My cousins told it to me when I was little(r). It was a bit different.

Something about a man who stayed at a hotel for some number of days, and in the middle of the night he would hear knocking coming from one of the other rooms. After it kept repeating, the man went to peek through the keyhole of the hotel room where the noise was coming from, and all he saw was red.

A little curious, he decided to ask the receptionist about it, and once he heard him mention the color red, he replied, "My wife's eyes... My wife had red eyes." Apparently, his wife had been dead for a long time.

The scary part? When the man looked through the keyhole and saw nothing but red, he was ACTUALLY staring into the eyes of the ghost wife, who was staring back at him.
